EUFAULA HIGH SCHOOL
MARCHING IRONHEAD BAND
2009
OBA State Champs Again
The Eufaula High School Marching Band traveled to Bixby on Oct. 10th
to participate in the Oklahoma Band Master’s (OBA) Marching Contest. The band
had already been to two previous marching contests, Sept. 26th at
Morris Marching Invitational receiving awards for Outstanding Drumline, 1st
in class 3A, and 2nd overall, and Oct. 3rd at the Konawa
Band Day receiving awards for High Music, Outstanding Drumline, 1st
in class Large 3A, and Outstanding Band in class 3A. After marching in the
preliminaries, EHS was awarded High Music, High General Effect, 1st
in class 2A, and a spot in that night’s Finals Competition. The overall
standings after Finals would award Eufaula Marching Band with 2nd
place. Congratulations band members and directors.
2007
The Eufaula High School
Marching Band cleaned up this year at Marching Contests
bringing home no less than 4 trophies from each contest.
To get this good you have to start somewhere. For this band, it all begins
in July with Color Guard Camp, Drum Line Camp, two and a half weeks of Summer
Band Camp, after which comes the first day of school and early morning
rehearsals.
The bands first Contest was Sept. 22nd at the Mounds Invitation Marching Contest where they competed against 21 bands and brought home trophies for Outstanding Color Guard, Outstanding Drum Line, 1st place 2A Gold Band, and, after finals performance, the 1st place Grand Champion of all Classes.
The next weekend, Oct. 6th, it was off to the Konawa Band Day Contest. Competing against 26 band overall, nine bands in 2A and three bands in Medium 2A, the Pride of Eufaula won Outstanding Color Guard, Outstanding Drum Line, 1st place Medium 2A, 1st place 2A, High Music Score Award, and the Longest Award for Most Outstanding Band of the Day.
Then, it was on to Broken Arrow for the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Marching Contest on Oct. 13th. They competed against 25 bands, after preliminaries, they won trophies for High Visuals, High Music Caption, High General Effect, 1st place 2A Champions, and a spot in the finals. After finals it was announced that Eufaula High School had placed 3rd.
With three contests down and one to go, band members traveled to McAlester on Oct. 16th for the Southeastern Regional Marching Contest where bands are giving a rating rather than a placement. Ratings are given by three different judges of either I (Superior), II (Excellent), III (Good), IV (Fair), V(Poor). Eufaula achieved the highest they could with a Superior rating from each judge. Also competing that day was the Color Guard, who received a Superior rating, and a solo by Color Guard member Whitney Evans that also received a Superior rating.
It’s been a great marching season. And while Marching Contests are finished for the year, the band will still be marching their Award Winning Show, The Sounds of Simon, at the remaining football games during half time. Once the football season is complete, the band will begin rehearsing for Concert Band Competition. Congratulations Eufaula High School Marching Band!
